LCC x Microsoft
This was the first event where we wanted to celebrate the mergence of technology and art. We felt that artists have the ability to share their work on a greater scale using technology. It allows artists to be efficient with their work. So with this event we wanted to create a space where creatives could come and learn about different Microsoft products. They had the opportunity to play around with each product and we brought in Microsoft product specialists for students to ask any questions. Microsoft is interested in designing more artistically friendly technology that artists can use to create their work. Therefore, they wanted to test out their current devices with different groups of students and see what kind of feedback they get. We thought that it was an extremely successful event as many students learned about Microsoft products that are user friendly fro artists. So, it was an eyeopening experience.
At this event we had our Microsoft host, Andre bring in devices such as the Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Studio 2, VR, Xbox and more. We also brought in a caricature artists using the Microsoft Surface Pro to create her drawings. The virtual reality was really popular. And students loved recreating one of our artist’s paintings using the Surface Studio 2.
This event allowed us to explore the impact of technology on our Laurier creative community. And as a collective we found that students do not use technology to the extent that we were shown at the event. They really taught us about the different capabilities of their products and how using them could benefit the students. But moreover, with the world shifting towards a more technological reality, it is important to keep ourselves up to date with new technologies.
