Peace in Greece
#1 and only ONE
Understand that life does not simply revolve around money, a 9-5 job and social media. I think that we all are guilty of getting caught up in the money hungry mentality and we forget that we are simply just another species (let that sink in). Especially in North America we commonly forget to relax, and give ourselves breaks. We as a species have created this complex life for ourselves and we get stuck in this cycle of WORK, EAT, SLEEP and REPEAT. Our life revolves around making money in order to support our lifestyles which of course makes sense. You need food and a roof over your head to survive but we don't need excessive clothes, makeup, cars, tech devices, jewellery, you name it.... BUT WE FORGET. Growing up in North America has made me materialistic and a lot of the time it is totally unintentional and unconscious. I don't even realize that I am being materialistic in needing the latest iPhone, it's just something that simply makes me happy. And there are only a few moments when I realize the true nature of my materialistic mentality and ONE of them is when I travel to different cities for REALLY cheap!
Specifically, this trip to Greece that I went on with my four besties. We did not stay in an all inclusive five star resort nor did we have the prettiest beach by our hotel but somehow we still managed to have the time of our lives. The reason we had such a good time you ask. Well that's because what mattered in this moment was the fact that we were all together, we were all relaxed, we were away from social media. We were truly living out our present lives. And the funniest thing is that many locals that we met felt the same way. Their lives seemed so simple but yet they seemed so happy. And to be quite honest this is a common European mentality, especially when I go back home to Serbia. No one has the newest iPhone, or the prettiest designer bag but instead people are outside, walking through the city, drinking coffee, eating ice-cream, actually talking to one another (as opposed to staring at their phones). And this is what I always feel I am missing in Canada. I feel as though we are missing communication and human interaction. And this is why I love vacationing and why one day I want to make my vacation vibes my lifestyle. I simply don't want to concern myself with money and materialism.
Now don't get me wrong, I love living in Canada, and I feel very fortunate. But sometimes I day dream about finding a place with a happy middle, where I could be as fortunate as I am in Canada and be as happy and content as the locals in small European cities.
Here are a few pictures of one of my favourite vacations. As opposed to some people I think that traveling, exploring the world and creating memories is worth every penny. And I encourage everyone to let themselves experience that feeling at least once in their lives, trust me you won't regret it.
